The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom came in at 4.2% in the three months to February, up by 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous quarter, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed in its report published on Tuesday.
The employment rate for people aged between 16 and 64 was 74.5%, falling from the previous trimester. The economic inactivity rate came above yearly estimates to land at 22.2%.
From January to March, the estimated number of vacancies fell by 13,000 in the quarter to 916,000. Vacancies fell in the quarter for the 21st consecutive period but are still above pre-coronavirus pandemic levels.
