British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told business leaders at Downing Street on Thursday that the United States' reciprocal tariffs will "clearly" have an economic impact not just on London but the whole world.
"But I want to be crystal clear: we are prepared, indeed one of the great strengths of this nation is our ability to keep a cool head," he said. While US President Donald Trump "acted for his country" last night, "today, I will act in Britain's interests," Starmer commented.
Meanwhile, speaking on a radio, United Kingdom Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said that while he recognizes "that the UK is in a better position than a lot of other countries," he was still disappointed with the announcement.
