The United States decided to temporarily close its embassy in Ukraine's capital city of Kiev after it received information of a "significant air attack" expected to happen on Wednesday.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the Embassy will be closed, and Embassy employees are being instructed to shelter in place," the US Department of State Consular Affairs said in a statement. "The US Embassy recommends US citizens be prepared to immediately shelter in the event an air alert is announced," it added.
The announcement comes after Ukrainian forces on Tuesday used US-supplied long-range ATACMS missiles for strikes inside Russia for the first time.
