Major stock markets in the United States closed lower on Tuesday after Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc. announced a delay in deploying the C-band fifth-generation (5G) technology around some of the nation's airports. The installation process itself caused several countries to temporarily halt flights to the US as they stressed their concerns about the system. Earlier, the newest report showed a monthly decline in builder confidence.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 1.51% or 542 points lower as Goldman Sachs Group Inc. plunged by 6.97%. The Nasdaq 100 fell by 2.57% or 400 points. The S&P 500 went down by 1.83%. Moderna Inc. was the worst performer on both of the latter indexes, plummeting by 8.85%
The euro lost 0.79% to the dollar at 3:58 am ET to sell for $1.13160.
