US court: Trump can be sued over January 6

United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit said on Friday that former President Donald Trump can be sued over charges that he provoked violence on January 6, 2021, when a group of his supporters attacked Capitol Hill.

The court pointed out that Trump was acting as a presidential candidate at the time, so he could not be immune, as immunity in civil lawsuits is granted to the president only for official actions.

Today's decision allows three suits to be filed against Trump by Capitol Police officers and members of Congress who are pursuing recovery from the emotional trauma and physical injuries resulting from the January 6 assault.
