The United States has ordered the evacuation of staffers and their families from the nation's embassy in Ukraine over "increased threats of Russian military action," the US State Department announced in its updated travel advisory.
"There are reports Russia is planning significant military action against Ukraine," the Department said, strongly advising Americans against visiting the country. Those already there were advised to leave, while few diplomats were given a green light to stay on a "voluntary" basis.
"US citizens in Ukraine should be aware that Russian military action anywhere in Ukraine would severely impact the US Embassy's ability to provide consular services, including assistance to US citizens in departing Ukraine," the travel advisory explained.
