United States House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings wrote to US President Donald Trump's advisor Stephen Miller (pictured) to ask him to appear before the panel on May 1. Cummings explained the move by arguing that Miller is "one of the primary moving forces behind some of the most significant - an in my view, troubling - immigration policies coming out of the Trump White House."
Cummings further stated that he wants Trump's senior policy advisor to explain why the administration introduced policies such as family separation, transferring asylum seekers to sanctuary cities and "firing top administration officials who refuse orders to violate the law." The Democratic lawmakers also quoted the president as saying that Miller is "in charge of handling all immigration and border affairs," justifying the need for his appearance before the committee.
