The United States Treasury announced on Friday it will target with sanctions five officials in charge of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's security and intelligence apparatus. US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin (pictured) said that the measures will divert assets from these individuals, blocking all property under their control and prohibiting Americans from dealing with them.
This action targeted the head of the Venezuelan National Intelligence Service, his first commissioner, the Commander of Venezuela’s Directorate General of Military Counter-Intelligence, the director of the Venezuelan National Police’s Special Actions Force, as well as the President of Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PdVSA).
The Trump administration announced that it will lift these sanctions if the targeted individuals take actions to "restore democratic order."
