The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States surged by 20,000 to 243,000 in the week ending July 13, the Department of Labor said in its report released on Thursday. The 4-week moving average increased by 1,000 from the previous week's revised average to stand at 234,750.
Meanwhile, the insured unemployment rate came in at 1.2% in the week ending July 6, unchanged from the previous week, as the insured unemployment number amounted to 1,867,000, up by 20,000 from the previous week's revised figures. The 4-week moving average was 1,850,500, jumping by 11,500 compared to the week prior.
