The United States destroyed two Houthi anti-ship missiles ready for launch into the Red Sea, US Central Command stated in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The missiles were in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and aimed at the Red Sea before being identified, intercepted and destroyed. The US forces determined the missiles posed an "imminent threat" to merchant vessels and US Navy ships and acted "in self-defense."
"This action will protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy vessels and merchant vessels," the US Central Command said in the post.
