US nonfarm payrolls rise by 199,000 in November

Nonfarm employment in the United States grew by 199,000 in November, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics published on Friday. The figure came in higher than projected by analysts and is up from 150,000 in October.

The unemployment fell to 3.7% from 3.9% in October. The number of unemployed persons was little changed at 6.3 million. The labor force participation rate was down by 0.1 percentage points from October, landing at 62.8%. Health care led the job gains with 77,000 in November. Average hourly earnings rose by 12 cents or 0.4% to $34.10. Over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 4%.
