Nonfarm employment in the United States increased by 187,000 in August, data released by the country's Bureau of Labor Statistics showed on Friday.
The unemployment rate stood at 3.8%, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous month. The labor force participation rate rose by 0.2 percentage points to 62.8%. The workforce grew the most in the health care sector, with 71,000 jobs gained. Leisure and hospitality employment increased by 40,000, followed by social assistance which added 26,000 jobs.
Average hourly earnings for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls rose by $0.08 or 0.2% from July to reach $33.82 in August, while the year-on-year increase stood at 4.3%.
