Nonfarm payrolls in the United States increased by 12,000 in October, according to a report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday. The figure was lower than September's revised 223,000 and analysts' forecasts of 113,000. Healthcare added 52,000 jobs, followed by government at 40,000.
According to the report, the unemployment rate remained stable at 4.1%. The number of unemployed was little changed from the previous month, standing at 7.0 million.
Average hourly earnings for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls increased by 13 cents or 0.4%. The average workweek remained at 34.3 hours. The data collection rate for the initial establishment survey in October was significantly lower than usual, primarily because of the disruptions caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the report added.
