Personal spending (PCE) in the United States increased 1.1% or $185 billion in March on a monthly basis, according to a report by the Bureau of Economic Analysis on Friday. Personal income was up by $107.2 billion, or 0.5% compared to February.
Meanwhile, the PCE price index for March grew 6.6% on a yearly basis, reflecting increases in both goods and services. Energy prices soared 33.9% while food prices jumped 9.2%. Excluding food and energy, the PCE price index was up by 5.2% from one year ago.
