The United States Treasury Department revealed on Friday that its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is imposing sanctions on 29 Iranian individuals and entities that were involved in "violent suppression" of protests following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in the custody of Iran's Morality Police.
The punitive actions targeted several Law Enforcement Command (LEC) members, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Ground Forces (IRGC), and "IRGC and regime-controlled" media Press TV and Fars News Agency. Also, the CEO and other Board members of Douran Software Technologies (Douran) were designated for "assisting the government in censorship and filtering of the Internet."
"The United States, alongside the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and our other international allies and partners, will continue to take collective action against those who suppress Iranians' exercise of their human rights," Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson stated in the press note released one day before the anniversary of Amini's death.
