The United States Senate voted unanimously to ban the social media platform TikTok from devices issued by the government. TikTok, developed by the Chinese company ByteDance, has been accused in the West of mishandling user data.

"TikTok is a Trojan Horse for the Chinese Communist Party. It’s a major security risk to the United States, and until it is forced to sever ties with China completely, it has no place on government devices," bill sponsor Senator Josh Hawley said. The bill will now also have to be approved by the House of Representatives and President Joe Biden.
