Beijing's response further aggravated fears of a looming recession and the impact of the escalating trade confrontation between the US and other major global economies.
The Dow Jones crashed 2.34% as Caterpillar fell 6.12%. The Nasdaq 100 plummeted 2.65% and the S&P 500 contracted 2.4% with HealthCare Technologies tumbling 15.92% on both indexes.
Meanwhile, on the currency front, the euro slid 0.30% against the dollar at 9:28 am ET and changed hands at $1.10208.
