Threats with sanctions against China that came from the United States are "very pathetic," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying (pictured) stressed on Wednesday.
"If the US wants the wind to blow and waves to roll, let the storm come more fiercely," Hua noted, adding that Beijing hopes sanctions won't represent the "defining mark left by the US to the world."
Previously, the Chinese Foreign Ministry asserted Beijing is "not afraid" of any sanctions the White House could impose over the South China Sea dispute, describing the Trump administration's actions as "empty hegemonic habits."
