Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian blamed the United States on Monday, during a press conference, for using the issues in the Xinjiang area as an excuse to "contain" China.
"Forced labor is not taking place in China, but in the US," Zhao stated, adding that Washington has been using false propaganda against Beijing. "While busy generating lies and rumors about forced labor in other countries, the US government turns a blind eye to the actual forced labor at home," the official underlined.
Earlier, the US authorities announced the implementation of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which aims to ban any imports from the Xinjiang area, citing forced labor and human rights abuses as a reason behind the decision.
