Some products are being exempted from tariffs on Chinese imports to the United States, the office of the US Trade Representative said on Tuesday. These products are being removed from the list published in May "based on health, safety, national security and other factors."

"Further, as part of the USTR's public comment and hearing process, it was determined that the tariff should be delayed to December 15 for certain articles," the statement added. These products include cell phones, laptops and video game consoles.

Moments before the announcement, Chinese media reported the country's Vice Premier Liu He spoke with USTR Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
