European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that she "always wanted to build a broad majority for a strong Europe," following the announcement of the preliminary results in the EU's parliamentary election.

"I have demonstrated in my first mandate what a strong Europe can achieve. My aim is to continue on this path with those who are pro-European, pro-Ukraine, pro-rule of law," she stated, adding that the world currently finds itself "in turmoil" as "forces from the outside and the inside" are trying to destabilize the European society, and otherwise weaken the EU.

"We will never let that happen," she stressed.
