Waymo opens driverless taxi service in Phoenix to public

Alphabet's self-driving company Waymo announced it is opening its fully driverless taxi service in Phoenix, Arizona, to the general public.

The service will be available from today to members of its Waymo One service and, within the next several weeks, anyone who downloads the Waymo app will be able to use it.

Waymo noted it plans to make 100% of its rides fully driverless "in the near term."
