White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre underlined on Tuesday during a press conference that United States President Joe Biden will continue to push programs that will benefit the American people, despite Big Pharma's complaints.
"We are confident we will succeed [in the courts]. There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents Medicare from negotiating lower drug prices," Jean-Pierre insisted. "Year after year, pharmaceutical giants make record profits as they charge middle-class families astronomical prices," she underlined. However, Biden finally took on Big Pharma "in the legislative process and he won."
Jean-Pierre called Big Pharma's arguments, which claim that the program is "hindering their ability to innovate," untrue. The comments come after Merck & Co. Inc. filed a complaint against the US government over the Drug Price Negotiation Program, saying that it is a "sham."
