White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated on Tuesday that the administration expects there to be an increase in coronavirus breakthrough cases in light of the Omicron variant.

Psaki commented that the "most effective step" to protect yourself against COVID is to get vaccinated and a booster shot, adding that the mortality rate for those that are unvaccinated against the virus is 14 times higher than for those that are.

On the topic of testing, Psaki said that the administration is working on distributing 500 million at-home, free rapid tests, with individuals being able to apply online for them. She noted that initial deliveries will start in January, saying that over the course of the year the administration has managed to quadruple the testing capacity and was waiting for more tests to be approved by regulators before they were allowed to be used at home.
