WH: Republicans advocating for govt shutdown over COVID

EPA-EFE/OLIVER CONTRERAS / POOL

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated on Wednesday that some GOP members of Congress are advocating for a government shutdown in order to ensure that coronavirus vaccine mandates are abolished.

In that, Psaki argued, the Republicans are advocating for around 20% of the population to be able to fully infect other members with the coronavirus. Moreover, she noted that it also shouldn't be a surprise that the members are supporters of Former President Donald Trump.

Psaki's comments came in response to the reports that Trump was positive for coronavirus prior to his first debate with then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden last year. Trump denied such allegations, saying that he was negative before the debate.
