White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby remarked on Tuesday during a regular press briefing that Washington still cannot "conclusively" say that Moscow was behind the Kakhovka dam explosion in Ukraine.
He noted that the United States has been monitoring the impact of the destruction "very closely." Kirby explained that the country is still assessing reports alleging Russia is to blame for the incident and is "working with the Ukrainians to gather more information." However, at this point, it is unclear what exactly happened, he said.
The US official shared that it is still "too soon" to tell how this event will affect Ukraine's counteroffensive operations. The current "immediate focus" is on "all the Ukrainians whose lives, and towns and villages are affected by the flooding," Kirby insisted.
