United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff told reporters at the White House on Thursday that Hamas was told it had to release an Israeli-American hostage Idan Alexander and others, calling it a "top priority" for Washington.
"I hope we see good behavior [from Hamas] next week and that I can get there [to Qatar] and have good talks," Witkoff stated. Previously, reports emerged of secret negotiations between the militant group and the US, involving Witkoff and Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Asam Boehler.
Previously, President Donald Trump demanded Hamas to leave Gaza and release all hostages or "there will be hell to pay."
