Chinese President Xi Jinping remarked on Thursday in the speech issued by his office to honor at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation's (APEC) summit in Bangkok that the region the group was named after is "no one's backyard" for "big power contest" and that it should remain so.
Xi also expressed his belief that the international community of "our times" will not let another Cold War happen. He also spoke against unilateralism and militarization of economic and trade matters and called for a strengthening of the relations within the APEC. Xi was supposed to give the speech at a business forum held as a part of the APEC's summit, however, his appearance was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.
At another summit he attended this week, the Group of 20's (G20), Xi met with his United States counterpart Joe Biden, among other officials, and said that their differences should not stop Beijing and Washington from developing bilateral relations.
