European Council President Charles Michel said on Thursday that Chinese President Xi Jinping "made clear" that Beijing is not providing weapons to Russia for use in the Ukraine war. Xi also insisted that the nuclear threat resulting from the conflict "is not acceptable and responsible." However, Xi did not urge Russia to end its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, although Michel hoped he will do so in the future.

Speaking at a press conference in China, Michel also said he and Xi agreed on further dialogue on human rights amid anti-lockdown protests across China. The European Council leader reiterated that European companies stand ready to provide COVID-19 vaccines to China if requested.
