Yandex, Uber to make self-driving car

EPA / WILL OLIVER

Russian tech giant Yandex Llc will have access to Uber Technologies Inc.'s software in order to produce a driverless car, TASS reported on Wednesday. This comes as a part of the arrangement between the two companies. “We have signed a deal with Uber, it allows access to technologies on an exclusive basis for our markets,” said Greg Abovski, Yandex’s finance director.

The driverless cars will include the Russian company's technologies like object recognition, mapping and real-time navigation, which will give the vehicle the capability to decide what to do in real life situations such as city traffic. Yandex and Uber have announced they will merge their businesses in Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia.
