Yemen-based Houthi movement released 153 war prisoners on Saturday, the Associated Press first reported, citing the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The officials described the unilateral decision as a "positive step" toward restarting peace talks to end the country's prolonged conflict.

The move followed the Houthis' announcement they would release detainees, with the intent to ease tensions in the region, particularly in the wake of the Gaza ceasefire.
