Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky chose on Thursday Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi to replace Valeriy Zaluzhny as the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"The year 2024 can be successful for Ukraine only if there are effective changes in the basis of our defense," Zelensky wrote in a Telegram post, adding that Syrskyi has had ample experience in both defensive and offensive operations.
The head of state previously met with Zaluzhny and offered him to continue working within the team.
