Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky paid an unannounced visit to Bakhmut, a city on the frontline in the Donetsk region, the Ministry of Defense informed the local media on Tuesday.
"We are on a business trip. Today is 300 days of the great full-scale war and today the president in Bakhmut awarded our best defenders protecting our eastern fortress, Bakhmut. The main forces of the enemy are now concentrated there, but the enemy is not getting anywhere," the ministry said in a statement. Ukrainian president yesterday stated that Kiev remains in control of the war-torn city, saying that "not a single undamaged wall remains."
The surprise trip comes as Zelensky's Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is set to present state awards to Moscow-appointed leaders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
