Trump threatens to raise tariffs if no China deal

EPA-EFE/JUSTIN LANE

United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that, if a trade deal with China is not reached, he would increase the tariffs already in place "substantially."

Answering questions from reporters after his speech at the Economic Club in New York, Trump noted that China has already begun "big agriculture purchases."

Last week, US president said he didn't approve cancelation of any tariffs on China, contrary to Beijing's statement announcing the two countries agreed to remove trade duties gradually and "reciprocally."
