Zuckerberg takes stand in FTC's acquisition trial

Meta Platforms Inc. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg testified on Tuesday before the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as the body is trying to prevent the tech giant from acquiring virtual reality (VR) company Within Unilimited Inc.

The FTC started the case amid concerns that Meta's acquisition of Within would cause harm to market competition rules. On the other hand, Facebook's parent is seeking to purchase Within in an effort to further develop its platform metaverse.

The trial has been seen as the FTC's and its chair Lina Khan's attempt to regulate major technological companies and their approach to antitrust laws.
