Aides warn Trump to stay out of Huawei CFO case - report

United States President Donald Trump's advisors have warned him not to intervene in the case of the arrest of the Chief Financial Officer of Huawei Technologies Co., Meng Wanzhou, as it would go against the longstanding tradition of the American political system, The Wall Street Journal reported citing sources close to the matter. Trump was also told that he has very limited options to influence the judiciary in this case.

One source told the WSJ that the White House has no current plans to intervene.

Earlier in the week, Trump said he would intervene in the case if it would be "good for what will be certainly the largest trade deal ever made," referring to the trade talks between Washington and Beijing. Previously, US president took part in negotiating a deal with another Chinese tech company, ZTE Corp., after it was found to have breached Washington's sanctions against Iran, which is the same allegation held against Huawei.
