Ankara, Moscow discuss upcoming Astana meeting

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu held a phone conversation to discuss the next Astana-format meeting with his counterpart Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

"The sides reiterated mutual commitment to further efforts towards lasting settlement in Syria on the basis of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254. In this context, the ministers discussed preparations for another international meeting on Syria in the Astana format that is scheduled for late November and exchanged views on the steps that need to be made to ensure its efficiency," the ministry said in a statement.

Ankara and Kremlin agreed in September to form a demilitarized zone in Syria's northern province Idlib in order to avoid a clash between the rebels and Assad's forces which was threatening to create a humanitarian disaster.
