Barr to stress importance of Mueller probe - report

United States President Donald Trump's nominee for attorney general, William Barr (pictured), will tell senators at his confirmation hearing it is "vitally important" that Special Counsel Robert Mueller finishes his investigation into possible Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election, the Associated Press reported on Monday.

"I believe it is in the best interest of everyone - the President, Congress, and, most importantly, the American people - that this matter be resolved by allowing the special counsel to complete his work," he will explain according to his prepared remarks.

Barr, who previously served as attorney general during the first Bush administration, is set to face lawmakers on Tuesday.
