Canada willing to miss NAFTA deadline - report

Canada is willing to miss the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) deadline if an adequate deal is not reached, a senior Canadian official told CBC on Friday. The pressure of the time limit is not enough to make Canada sign a deal that is against the interest of its citizens, the source reportedly said.

Earlier, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed hope that the deal will be reached as soon as possible, but noted Ottawa's main goal was to make a "right deal for Canadians." The United States President Donald Trump stated that he wanted to rebrand the NAFTA as the USMC (US, Mexico, Canada) pact but warned he was comfortable dropping the C (Canada) and signing a bilateral deal with Mexico.
