China: US imports to drop as trade tensions prevail

Chinese Vice Agriculture Minister Han Jun stated on Friday that the level of United States agricultural goods will drop significantly when Beijing puts its retaliatory measures into motion amid the ongoing trade tensions between the two world powers, local media reported.

According to the minister, the decline in the US imports will only have a limited impact on China's agricultural sector. Jun added that China was equipped of meeting its own demand for edible oil and protein-based animal feed.

Earlier, Beijing announced a new round of retaliatory tariffs ready to kick in later this month, as a response to the punitive trade measures imposed by Washington. Among other products, Chinese tariffs will target crude oil, coal, and steel products.
