China voices concern over Japan's alleged Huawei, ZTE ban

Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed serious concern on Friday over Japan's reported exclusion of Chinese telecom equipment producers Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corporation from government contracts. Beijing also urged Tokyo to provide a level playing field for its companies doing business in Japan. The move comes in the light of the arrest of Huawei's top executive in Canada.

Earlier today, it was reported that the Japanese government plans to ban the use of telecoms products made by the two Chinese companies as early as of next Monday. Tokyo allegedly plans to exclude Huawei and ZTE in its revision of procurement rules. The move would make Japan the second country after the United States to ban telecommunications products made by the two Chinese firms from government use, while New Zealand and Australia already blocked Huawei from building its 5G networks.
