Huawei launches next-generation chipset

Huawei Technologies launched a new chipset that will be used in data center servers and the company's TaiShan server and be an alternative to Intel and AMD products, media reported.

The Kunpeng 920 is a 7-nanometer chip, the latest in the semiconductor industry. It has improved performance and reduces power consumption and is designed to help process and store large amounts of data, Huawei said.

Intel controls some 96% of the global market with its chips. Despite being a tech giant, Huawei still has to buy chips from Intel and AMD for its data center server products. Huawei's Kunpeng now puts the Chinese company in competition with the likes of that.
