Manafort to plead guilty as part of deal with Mueller - court filing

United States President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort is expected to plead guilty in a federal conspiracy case, according to a federal court document filed on Friday. Prosecutors reduced the set of charges against him to just two, conspiracy against the US and conspiracy to obstruct justice, suggesting Manafort may have reached a plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

American media suggested on Thursday he reached a "tentative" deal with Mueller, but it was not clear whether he agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in the investigation into Russian election meddling and Trump's possible obstruction of justice. Manafort was previously found guilty on eight charges of bank and tax fraud, which was followed by news the president is considering granting him a pardon.
