Markets functioned well during selloff - SEC's Clayton

Markets in the United States functioned well during yesterday's selloff, US Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Jay Clayton (pictured) said on Thursday, during an interview with CNBC.

"Days like yesterday make people nervous because obviously its not expected when you see drops like this, but drops like that are part of how markets work. My question last night for our team was 'How did the market function?' And, the assessment, overall, was that the market functioned well." Clayton said.

The Trump administration reacted to the market selloff that occurred yesterday as the Wall Street closed deeply in the red with the Dow Jones plunging more than 800 points at the closing bell. The index lost 941 points since Tuesday's intraday high.
