May wants Trump to raise Russia's 'malign behavior' issue with Putin

United Kingdom's Prime Minister Theresa May said she asked United States President Donald Trump to raise the issue of Russia's "malign behavior" when he meets Russian President Vladimir Putin next week. "In recent years we’ve seen Russia stepping up its arms sales to Iran; shielding the Syrian regime’s appalling use of chemical weapons; launching cyber-attacks that have caused huge economic damage; and spreading malicious and fake news stories on an industrial scale," she said at a working dinner with NATO member leaders. May also pointed out the attack on Sergey and Yulia Skripal and its possible connection with the recent death of a woman poisoned by a nerve agent as Moscow's "growing disregard for the norms and laws that help to keep us safe."

However, the prime minister said UK's long-term goal is a constructive relationship with Russia. "That is why I welcome President Trump’s forthcoming meeting with President Putin: open channels of communication between the US and Russia are key to managing the risks of confrontation," she concluded.
