Microsoft launches free Teams with AI features

Microsoft Corp.'s workplace platform, started last year, got its free version and additional functions, some of which are supported with artificial intelligence solutions. The Teams product marketing manager Raanah Amjadi said on Thursday that the chat now includes the translation option within the feature. Another automatic function is transcription, she said and explained users can, for instance, go through recorded meetings without sound.

The product, part of the Office 365 architecture, was until now available under subscription. It is compatible with the company's other business applications, but also third-party tools. Amjadi also unveiled a function that "intelligently" blurs out the background behind the person during a video conversation, for focus. New Teams enable creation, sharing and editing of attachments.

The cloud giant said it upgraded the Azure SQL Data Warehouse and launched security service Firewall and Virtual WAN, or wide area network. The technology powerhouse added it strengthened the MyAnalytics with collaboration items and task delegation tools, including help from machine learning.
