Mnuchin: US to sanction Russia, China for Iranian oil imports

United States Treasure Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated on Thursday that Washington will introduce sanctions against Russia and China for their importing of Iranian oil, local media reported.

During a testimony before the House Financial Services Committee, the diplomat also said that the most recent trade tensions between the US and the rest of the world, mainly China and the European Union, have not had a negative effect on the domestic economy

On May 8, US President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPA), also known as the Iran nuclear, deal and promised to reintroduce sanctions against Tehran and all countries that will continue to their trade relations with Iran. The latest measures announced against Russia and China come in line with Washington's intention to pressure both its allies and other world countries to stop the purchase of Iranian oil and all other trade ties.
