Moscow summons UK envoy over 'attempts to discredit' Russia

Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Ambassador of the United Kingdom Laurie Bristow (pictured left) on Tuesday over London's claims of Moscow's involvement in the poisoning of the former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter. The ministry has stated that it regards the accusations as "unscrupulous attempt to discredit Russia" and vowed to respond to any "sanctions" that London might impose.

However, the British Embassy told Sputnik that the ambassador was not summoned, but only visited for a meeting with the First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow will not respond to the ultimatum issued by the United Kingdom in connection to the Skripal case without concrete evidence of Russia's involvement.
