Mueller - Cohen helped 'substantially' on Russia probe

Special counsel Robert Mueller said United States President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen made "substantial and significant efforts to remediate his misconduct" and help the investigation into Russia's meddling in 2016 presidential elections.

"He chose to accept responsibility for his false statements and admit to his conduct in open court," Mueller's office wrote, adding Cohen met with the Special counsel's office (SCO) seven times, "voluntarily provided the SCO with information about his own conduct and that of others on core topics under investigation by the SCO, and committed to continuing to assist the SCO's investigation."

The special counsel further stated he will not take a position on the length of the sentence Cohen should receive for lying to Congress in his testimony. Earlier, federal prosecutors called for "substantial term of imprisonment" for Trump's former lawyer.
