UK inflation unchanged at 3% in January

United Kingdom's key inflation rate stood at 3% in January, unchanged compared to the previous month, the Office for National Statistics reported on Tuesday. Including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH), the annual inflation rate was 2.7%, also unchanged compared to the previous month.

The largest downward contribution to the price changes came from transport, especially motor fuels whose price growth accelerated at a slower pace compared to a year ago, while a smaller negative effect came from food and non-alcoholic drinks. Meanwhile, the inflation was pushed higher by a range of recreational and cultural goods and services, with the main upward contribution coming from admission prices for attractions such as zoos and gardens.
